The president of the United States of America Donald Trump has announced the severance of all U.S ties with the World Health Organization(WHO),three weeks ahead of a deadline he laid down earlier this month.
He made the announcement in a speech in the white house Rose garden claiming that "China has total control over the W.H.O.
"we have detailed the reforms that it must make and engage with them directly, but they have refused to act because they have failed to make the requested and greatly needed reforms",Trump stated in a statement.
"We will be today terminating our relationship with the World Health Organization and redirecting those funds to other world wide and deserving urgent global public health needs".
Trump had sent a for page letter to WHO director general Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, warning he would permanently cut U.S funding of W.H.O and reconsider US membership if the organization did not "commit to major substansive improvements within the next 30 days.
The U.S is the biggest funder of the health body, paying about $45 million in membership dues and voluntary contributions for specific programmes.
